Reflecting on our Week: Students used an app called Audio Memo to record themselves reading a leveled passage. Then they listened to their recording and made note of words they did not get correct. They repeated this process 2 times. By the third recording the students were able to figure out all of their mistakes. This process also allows them to hear how they sound while reading. By the third recording students said they sounded more like they do during conversations. This is a goal of fluency instruction. Students should sound like they talk when they are reading.

Some students have been confused about what an index is and how it is used. This week during centers students used the index in the back of the teachers science book to become more familiar with the index.
During guided reading students were able to bring their choice of books to discuss. We focused on character analysis and retell. Students interest level in books can be a big motivator for reading, even texts that might be considered too difficult. We had a great time discussing all of the books and learning new vocabulary.
