Reflecting on our week:
I took a few pictures of our indoor recess dance party. We have had a blast learning new dance moves!
I think the students actually prefer indoor recess somedays.

We checked out a new website this week during guided reading (www.speakaboos.com). This is a fun website with many different types of short stories. Our goal during guided reading this week was to make connections and compare 3 different Cinderella stories. We then took our knowledge and wrote a persuasive paragraph explaining who we thought was most deserving of the crown (marrying the prince).

We had fun exploring base ten blocks. We used unit cubes, 10-sticks, and 100-flats to represent various numbers, such as 36, 125, 341, and 904. It is important for early elementary students to manipulate actual pieces so they can gain a clear understanding of what these numbers represent. It is easy to misunderstand a students knowledge based on grades earned on math tests. Students may get every problem correct but still be unsure of exactly what these number represent. This deep understanding will help students as they get into higher math expectations in middle school and high school.

Here is a list of some of the other Cinderella books if you would like to check them out. All of the students enjoyed hearing the versions we read in class.
